Addiction can be dependency and/or abuse of drugs, alcohol, food, sex, gambling, work, exercise, mobile phone and social media. The term addiction is used to describe a recurring compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity despite harmful consequences to the individual’s health, mental state and/or social life. In other words, addiction is any behaviour that is repeated over and over despite significant negative consequences.Â
Addictions can often evolve from underlying, unresolved issues. Working through these issues in a structured way can help you stay in recovery and can also help you work on yourself at a deeper level. The aim of counselling is to help you to explore in a safe environment, the issues that are underpinning your addiction and to help you move forward.
